The biblical mountain climb took place during the Domina Running Experience, organised thanks to the partnership between PWT Italia, Domina Travel and Domina Coral Bay.

With a time of 45’43‘, Jessica Lucchetta from Treviso achieved the best world women’s climbing performance on Mount Sinai in Egypt, followed by her PWT Italia teammate Annarita Scalzotto from Vicenza in 53’50’.

The young orienteers, respectively from Pieve di Soligo and Orgiano, completed the ascent of Egypt’s second highest mountain, after Mount Catherine (2,637 m), at 2,285 metres.

The start, coordinated by field assistant Emma Beggiato, took place at 11.30 local time from the Monastery of Saint Catherine, dedicated to Saint Catherine of Alexandria. This is the oldest Christian monastery, dating back to the 6th century, where, according to tradition, Moses is said to have spoken with God in the biblical episode of the burning bush, receiving the tablets with the Ten Commandments. The 5 km climb time with 790 metres of altitude difference was certified by Camelot Sport of Francesco D’Anisi.

In the men’s field, the world’s best performance belongs to Riccardo Scalet, another PWT Italy athlete, who set a record time of 35’17’ in November 2020.

Jessica Lucchetta: ‘I had a lot of fun on the path to the summit of Mount Sinai. The final steps are a tough challenge with yourself, but reaching the summit is a great satisfaction’.

Annarita Scalzotto: ‘It was tough because of the heat and the hunger pangs. The landscape is unique and I enjoyed the steps. An exciting challenge’.
